Christian Dior: Designer of dreams, Brooklyn Museum (Part 1)
Buenos dĆas! La semana pasada terminĆ³ la exposiciĆ³n Christian Dior: Designer of dreams en el Brooklyn Museum. Sin duda ha sido la exposiciĆ³n de moda mĆ”s completa y espectacular que he visitado nunca (y he visitado unas cuantas!), asĆ que por si no habĆ©is tenido la suerte de disfrutarla, os traigo un resumen bien cargado.
Good morning! Last week was the last chance to visit the Christian Dior: Designer of dreams exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum. It was by far the most amazing fashion exhibition I have ever been to (and I have been to a few!), so, in case you were not lucky enough to enjoy it, here is a good recap.
Dada la cantidad de grandes museos que hay en Manhattan, nunca me habĆa llamado la atenciĆ³n el Museo de Brooklyn, pero os lo recomiendo porque es enorme y hacen exposiciones maravillosas como la que os comparto hoy.
Given the amount of great museums located in Manhattan, I had never been to the one in Brooklyn, but I really recommend it since eit is huge and hosts reeally cool eexhibitions like the one I'm sharing today.
El recorrido empieza por los orĆgenes de la casa Dior en 1947, y cĆ³mo su fundador llega a Estados Unidos un aƱo despuĆ©s de lanzar su primera colecciĆ³n y abre la primera franquicia de Dior en Nueva York, para llevar la moda de ParĆs a las mujeres americanas, dando origen asĆ a la globalizaciĆ³n de la moda que ha llegado hasta nuestros dĆas.
The visit starts at the origins of the House of Dior in 1947 and how its founder came to the US a year after launching his first collection to open the first branch in New York. This way he brought Parisian fashion to the american women, starting the fashion globalization we know today.
Empezamos por el "New Look", la silueta que revolucionĆ³ la moda, con una cintura muy marcada y faldas amplias con mucho volumen. Estos son algunos de los diseƱos de Christian Dior de los aƱos 40 y 50:
Let's start with the "New Look", the silhoutte that shaked fashion at thee time, with a tiny waist line and voluminous skirts. This are some of Dior designs from the 40s and 50s:

Apart from dresses, the exhibition offers videos, photographs, press pages, fashion sketches, fabric samples and much more:
El nacimiento de la casa Dior coincidiĆ³ con la Ć©poca dorada de la fotografĆa de moda, y muchos fotĆ³grafos americanos acudieron a ParĆs a para conseguir imĆ”genes con movimiento gracias a las fotogĆ©nicas creaciones de Dior. Richard Avedon tomĆ³ esta icĆ³nica imagen de Dovima con los elefantes del circo, vestida con el primer diseƱo de Yves Saint Laurent para Dior:
The creation os the House of Dior happened during theee golden age of fashion photography, so lots of American photographers traveled to Paris to capture images with Dior photogeenic designs. Richard Avedon took this iconic shoot of Dovima with thee elephants at the circus, dressed with the first Yves Saint Laurent design for Dior:
Tras la repentina muerte de Monsier Dior en 1957, las creaciones quedaron en manos de sus sucesores. Yves Saint Laurent ya trabajaba con Ć©l y se hizo cargo de la Maison hasta 1960:

A continuaciĆ³n llegĆ³ Gianfranco FerrĆ©, aportando un toque de opulencia y extravaganza italiana a la casa francesa:
After him, it was Gianfranco FerrƩ who took control, adding an italian opulent and extravagant touch to the french house:
En 1997 llegĆ³ a la Maison el diseƱador gibraltreƱo John Galliano, que deslumbrĆ³ al mundo con sus diseƱos hasta que en 2011 fue despedido por sus declaraciones antisemitas:
In 1997 Dior hired a designer from Gibraltar; John Galliano. The genius amazed the world with his designs until 2011, when he was fired due to his anti-semite declarations:
Tras la brusca salida de Galliano, llegĆ³ a la casa Dior el diseƱador belga Raf Simons. Los 3 aƱos que estuvo al frente de la maison fueron un Ć©xito y tambiĆ©n una modernizaciĆ³n:
After Gallianos caos, the belgian Raf Simons took the role. The 3 years he spent at the Maison were a huge success and also gave a modern twist:
Finalmente, en 2016, la casa Dior eligiĆ³ a una mujer como directora creativa. Maria Grazia Chiuri desde el principio ha dado un carĆ”cter activista a sus diseƱos, incluyendo mensajes feministas y colaborando con artistas y artesanas para todos sus shows.
Finally, in 2016, the house of Dior choose a women to be its creative director. Maria Grazia Chiuri brought an activism side to her designs, including feminist messages and collaborating with artists and artisan women in her shows and creations.
