Buenos días! Hoy os traigo un DIY sencillo para reciclar un espejo viejo o añadirle un marco a un espejo que no tenga. Ya me habéis visto uilizar cuerda en otros proyectos y es que me encanta el toque rústico que da a cualquier cosa y el precio tan económico que tiene, así que vamos allá!

Good morning! Today I'm sharing a simple DIY for recycling an old mirror or adding a frame to a frameless one. You have previously seen me using ropes in different projects cause I love the rustic vibe it adds and the unexpensive price it has, so let's go!

Traveling has always been an important part of my life and, I haven't posted my trips for the last couple of years but, I shared my adventures wandering places like India, Egypt, Italy, Morocco, Paris, Norway, United States and, of course, Spain, which full guide you can see here! You can also find some inspiration to pack here.

Otra de las cosas que también tiene una gran importancia en mi vida, y que he compartido de vez en cuando, es la gastronomía. Another important part of my life, that I have shared eventually, is food. Returning to fashion, you know I try to attend any design or textile exhibition nearby. And have also shared them in different posts, from YSL to Gaultier, from romantic fashion to camp style, from Ikat to First Ladies dresses, and from Opera Costumes to Barbie little dresses. And let's talk about DIY, short for Do It Yourself. A type of posts I have shared from the blog early days, sharing tutorials with step by step images, that lately I have posted as videos on my Youtube channel, showing the entire process, specially of vintage items being cleaned, fixed or restored. I have been into handicrafts since I was a little girl, and I like making creative things, so you can find DIYs to transform your clothes, customize shoes or create bags, but you will also find ideas for your kitchen, your bathroom and plants, as well as some other decorative projects like candles or paperweights. Did you know my most visited post every year is this one???

En mi familia se rien porque dicen que todo lo arreglo con una pistola de pegamento, que no os negaré que es una de mis herramientas favoritas, pero también os daréis cuenta que utilizo otras cosas con frecuencia.

My family makes fun of me cause they say I fix everything with a glue gun, which I can not deny is one of my favorite tools, but you will also notice I use some other things often. 

Podéis ver cómo le añado pompones a jerséis, pantalones, lámparas, zapatos y sandalias, cestas, mantas o adornos de navidad. 

You can see how I add pompoms to sweaters, pants, lamps, shoes and sandals, baskets, blankets and Christmas decorations. 

También tengo una buena colección de DIY con conchas, caracolas y cristales de mar, que he utilizado para hacer pendientes, collares, marcos de fotos, jaboneras, bandejas para los anillos y una puerta!.

I also have a good collection of shells and sea inspired  DIY projects, such as earrings, necklaces, photo frames, soap dishes, jewelry trays and a door!

Las cuerdas también son súper versátiles para hacer proyectos DIY. Podéis ver cómo las he utilizado para hacer marcos, maceteros, colgadores para velas, posavasos, móbiles y hasta unos zapatos algo locos!

Ropes ans strings are also very useful for your DIY ideas. You can see how I have used them to make frames, plant pots, candle lanterns, coasters, mobiles and even crazy shoes!

Y otro de mis favoritos son las cajas! Utilicé cajas antiguas de tomates para hacer mi querida mesa de centro, y cajas de vino para hacer estanterías, mesas, estaciones de té e incluso una bandeja para la bañera...

Another one of my favorites are wood crates! I used old tomato crates to make my lovely coffee table, and wine crates to make shelves, console tables, tea stations and also a bath tray...

Pero si hay algo que adoro utilizar para proyectos creativos en esta época del año son hojas y calabazas. Tenéis uno de mis DIY otoñales favoritos utilizando hojas de colores aquí, y varias ideas para decorar con calabazas aquí, ya sea para Halloween, Acción de Gracias o simplemente celebrar el otoño!

But if there is something I love to use for DIYs in this time of the year it is leaves and pumpkins. You have one of my favorite Fall DIYs using colorful leaves here, and many decoration ideas using pumpkins here, I hope you use them for Halloween, Thanksgiving or just to celebrate Fall!

Buenos días! Hoy os traigo un tutorial rápido y sencillo para limpiar y cuidar un bolso de ante. De todos los acabados en piel, probablemente el ante es el que más tiende a ensuciarse y en el que más se nota el roce y uso diario. Es un tipo de piel que me gusta porque es suave y blanda, por lo que es ideal tanto en bolso como en calzado, e incluso para prendas de vestir, pero hay que ser un poco más cuidadosos que con un cuero de grano grueso.

Good morning! Today I'm sharing a quick tutorial to clean a suede bag. Of all the leather finishes, suede is probably the one that gets dirty easiest, and it tends to show daily wear fast. It is a kind of leather I love because it is smooth and soft, so it is perfect for bags and shoes, as well as for clothing garments, but we have to take good care of it, as it is not as durable as grained leather.

Lo mejor que podéis hacer con vuestros artículos de ante recién comprados es rociarlos bien con spray para impermeabilizar. Esto va a hacer que repelan el agua y así evitaremos manchas de lluvia o de otros líquidos. Yo he derramado un caramel machiatto sobre mis botines de ante beige y están como nuevos! Tenéis otros trucos para vuestros zapatos en este post! Conviene que los volváis a rociar con el spray al inicio de cada temporada, o cuando lo limpieis.

The best thing you can do with your brand new suede items is spraying them with a waterproofing product. This will make them repel water and avoid rain marks or liquid stains. I have spilled a caramel macchiato on my beige suede booties and they look brand new! You have some of my favorite hacks for your shoes here! You should reapply the spray every season or after cleaning your items.

There are 2 wonderful tools to clean suede that I use depending on the case:

En primer lugar tenéis la goma de borrar, que sirve para borrar manchas y roces. Es una forma delicada de eliminar la mancha, pero a veces puede apagar un poco el color cuando el ante tiene colores muy vivos, como en el caso de mis botas rojas.

First you have the suede eraser, perfect to clean scuffs and normal wear and tear. It is a delicate way of erasing stains, but sometimes it can fade color in intense rich suede, like it happens on my red boots.

En segundo lugar tenéis el cepillo. Cuando la goma de borrar no es suficiente para limpiar el ante, recurro a este cepillo mágico! Este desgasta un poco más el ante, y por eso, si la mancha sale con la goma, prefiero no utilizarlo tan a menudo, pero deja el ante totalmente limpio y suave.

The second option is the suede brush. When the suede eraser is not enough to remove a stain, I use this magic brush! This wears suede down a little, so that is why I prefer to use the eraser when possible, but this brush leaves suede perfectly clean and soft.

Good morning! A few weeks ago I showed you on Instagram this watch I got gifted by Nordgreen. They really have a lot of models I like, so choosing one was not easy. It turned out the metallic strap is not uncomfortable like I had imagined and I have been wearing it often with no issues. The only thing I would point out is that straps like this one, with metallic links, are not as easy to adjust like leather straps, so you have to get the watch adjusted to your wrist size.

Ajustar la correa de un reloj es algo que normalmente hacen en la tienda o en la joyería cuando lo compras, pero hay veces que compramos online o que nos regalan un reloj y no encontramos el momento de llevarlo a ajustar. Pero ya sabéis que yo soy de hacer las cosas por mi cuenta, así que decidí ajustar la talla del reloj en mi propia casa!

Reducing or lengthening a watch strap is something you usually get done at the boutique or the jewelry when you buy it, but sometimes you can get a watch as a gift or buy it online, and making the time to take it to a professional can be difficult. You know I usually take matters into my own hands, so I decided to resize the watch strap at home!

Las correas metálicas suelen tener unos cuantos eslabones que se pueden poner o quitar, lo sabrás porque están indicados con una flecha por la parte interior. La flecha indica en qué sentido debemos sacar la barra interior que los une. Yo suelo tener herramientas para casi todo en casa, pero en esta ocasión no es recomendable utilizarlas, se necesitan herramientas especiales, y en mi caso compre este aparatillo por unos 5€ y que me llegó a casa en 24 horas. 

Metallic straps usually have a few removable links, you will notice an arrow on the inside. That arrow signs the direction to pull out the small bar joining the links. I have tools at home for almost any task, but for removing the watch links you need very specific tools, and in my case I purchased this one for $5 and received it at home in less than 24 hours.

Buenos días! Hace mucho que no hacía un DIY por aquí, pero por suerte el verano siempre me inspira. Sabéis que me encanta coger conchas, piedras, cristales o cualquier cosa interesante a la orilla del mar. Más que nada porque no me puedo estar quieta en la toalla! Siempre se me ocurren ideas con mis tesoros marinos y acabo compartiéndolas por aquí.

Good morning! It's been a while since I last shared a DIY, but luckily I get easily inspired in the Summer. You know how much I love picking shells, stones, glasses or any interesting finds by the sea. I basically can not stay still on the towel, I always get new ideas for my marine treasures and love sharing them here. 

En este caso tengo unas conchas que recogí en una playa de Cape Cod hace unas semanas. Y ya sabéis que en América es todo a lo grande, así que no son las típicas conchas de tamaño berberecho... 

This time I have some shells I picked at the beach in Cape Cod a few weeks ago. And you know how everything is big in America, so these are not the average cockle size shell we are used to in Spain...

Necesitas / You need:

Según las vi me parecieron perfectas para utilizar de jaboneras, vacia bolsillos o incluso para poner unos caramelos o unos bombones. Como este tipo de concha no tiene apenas brillo, no sé si porque son así o por el desgarte en el mar, he pensado que podrían quedar bien esmaltadas. A ver qué os parecen!

The minute I saw them I thought they could become a soap dish, a trinket tray or even a nice plate for candy or bonbons. This type of shell is not very shinny, not sure if  that is how they are or the shine wore off in the sea, so I thought I would use some nail polish on them. Let me know what do you think!

Buenos días! Creo que a estas alturas todas conocéis my amor por las americanas camel, que podéis ver combinadas de diferentes formas aquí. Hace un año me hice con un par de ellas, una de lana que utilizo más en otoño, y otra de caballero que es la que me estoy poniendo en primavera. 

Good morning! I  think by now you are all aware of my love for camel blazers, which you can see styled here. I acquired a couple of them a year ago, a wool one that I wear mostly in Fall months, and an oversized one that I'm wearing tin Spring.

The first one was ready to wear after dry cleaning, but the second one needed some deeper action, so this is what I'm sharing with you today.

Limpieza / Cleanning

Lo primero que hice fue quitarle los botones y llevar la chaqueta a la tintorería para dejarla bien limpia! Suelo preferir lavar yo misma las prendas que compro vintage, pero los abrigos y las blazers es mejor llevarlos a un sistio profesional para que no pierdan la forma.

The first thing I did was removing the buttons and take the jacket to the cleaners to make it fresh! I usually wash or clean every vintage item when I first get it, but coats and jackets are better off at proffessional hands so they do not loose their structured shape.

Forro / Lining

El forro de la chaqueta estaba descosido por la manga. Para reparar un forro de chaqueta o abrigo, lo mejor es descoserlo por el bajo, darle la vuelta a todo, repararlo desde el interior y volver a cerrarlo por el bajo. Mi sorpresa fue que cuando recogí la chaqueta de la tintorería ya le habían cosido el forro. Lo hicieron bastante chapuceramente, pero como el interior de la manga no se ve, de momento se ha quedado así.

The blazer lining was ripped at the sleeve. The best way to repair a garment lining is unstitching the hem, turning it inside out, repairing it and closed the hem back. In this case the cleaners took care of it so I found it repaired when I picked it up. The stitching was not very fine, but since the inside of the sleeves are not usually seen, I am letting it be, at least for now.

Botones / Buttons

Los botones metálicos estaban algo envejecidos, así que el primer paso fue quitarlos para limpiarlos a fondo. Otra cosa que podéis hacer con los botones es cambiarlos por unos nuevos que le den un toque más moderno, o cambiarlos por unos antiguos que le quitáseis a otra prenda en su día. Son soluciones que también son muy prácticas cuando se os haya perdido alguno y no encontréis un repuesto. 

The lovely metallic buttons were tarnished, so I removed them at the beginning to clean them properly. You can also swap them for new buttons that give a modern touch or for old ones that you might have taken from a different jacket. Those are very practical tips to update a blazer, specially when you have a missing piece and can not find a replacement. 

En este caso, como la chaqueta tenía todos los botones y me gustan bastante con el las iniciales YSL, yo me decidí por restaurarlos. Para ello utilicé un limpiador de metales que podéis encontrar aquí, y un procedimiento bastante similar al que utilizé para limpiar la cremallera y los herrajes de mi bolso Alma de Louis Vuitton. Me ayudé con la punta de un alfiler para quitar bien los restos en los recovecos más pequeños.

But since this blazer had all its buttons and I really like the vintage YSL detail, I decided to fix them. I used a cleaner that you can find here, and a similar method to the one I used to clean my Louis Vuitton hardware. I also used a pin to reach the small details. 

Finalmente, cuando recogí la chaqueta de la tintorería, le volví a coser los botones. Un paso que hay que hacer muy concienzudamente para que no se nos caiga ni se pierda ninguno!

Finally, once I had the jacket back from the cleaners, I sew the buttons back. This is a step you should do very carefully and make sure they are properly fixed so they do not fall in the future.

Buenos días! Hoy os traigo un DIY sencillo, aunque algo laborioso, para transformar una chaqueta básica y darle un aire diferente inspirándome en las clásicas chaquetas de Chanel. Para ello he elegido una chaqueta gris de tweed y le ha añadido un ribete con una cadena plateada y un lazo de grosgrain azul marino, espero que os guste!

Buenos días! Hoy os traigo un nuevo DIY que me tiene emocionada. Llevaba años con la idea en la cabeza de teñir tejidos, pero no me atrevía. Incluso he presenciado cómo tiñen las telas en la India, asistí a varias exposiciones sobre Ikat en Washington que podéis recordar AQUÍ, y tengo algún libro en casa explicando muy a fondo todas las alternativas para dar color a cualquier tela. Compré hace un par de años un tinte azul, en algún subidón de inspiración, pero no sabía muy bien qué hacer con él. Por un lado me daba un poco de miedo destrozar alguna tela, y por el otro no tenía una idea clara de qué hacer con la tela una vez la tuviese teñida. Con este tipo de estampados corres el riesgo de hacer una camiseta de colorines y parecer una hippie en los 70 o una niña en un campamento de verano creativo... 

Good morning! Today I'm really excited about the DIY I'm sharing. I had wanted to dye fabrics for the longest time, but for some reason I wouldn't dare. Even after seeing how they dye fabrics in India and having attended several Ikat exhibitions in DC, which you can check HERE, I also have a pretty detailed book at home with all kind of techniques to change the color of any  fabric... I purchased some blue dye a couple of years ago, but I never knew what to do with it. In part cause I was scared to ruin the fabric, and in part cause I wasn't sure what to do with the fabric once it was dyed. These kind of prints are really tricky and you can end up looking like a hippie in the 70's or like you just came back form a creativity Summer camp...

This Summer I fell in love with a Dior dress with a degrade in all colors of the rainbow, and I thought about trying, but I realized dying something in different colors was overambitious, since I had not dye a thing in my life. And suddenly, I saw lots of influencers on instagram wearing a tie dye Dior skirt, so I decided it was the perfect project to try!

Ha sido un proceso experimental en el que no tenía ni idea de cuál sería el resultado final, pero la verdad es que estoy bastante contenta y ya he sacado la falda de paseo un par de veces, a ver qué os parece!
