Good morning! I already share a little about the Gabrielle Chanel exhibiton, and today I bring you the second part, leaving clothes aside and exploring many other accessories, textiles and cosmetics, which were also part of this rich exhibition.
Gabrielle Chanel started her business creating hats, so this accessory was a must at the beginning of the exhibition. Apart from the hat, there were several caricatures published during her time, showing her as a milliner or involved with certain man.
Photographies show her true to her style, with her iconic haircut and pearls around her neck.
Chanel also designed her own prints, and even her fabrics in collaboration with traditional manufacturers from the UK.
The exhibition showed some of her figurines, and also her handprint:
She was also revolutionary designing some jewelry, and was an advocate of costum jewelry, designing unique pieces to match her outfits.
She designed one of the most famous shoes in history, the Chanel captoe slingback, which is still trendy today.
And, of course, she also designed bags! Apparently, it was her idea to add a chain to this accessory in order to keep her hands free. So we owe her that! Her 2.55 model, named like that for being created in February 1955, is still one of the World's most wanted bags.
It was Gabrielle who also stepped into perfumes and cosmetics. She created soap, tan oil, makeup, and men and women perfumes. Her Chanel No. 5 perfume was a hit, so much so that she developed an entire line of products with the same fragrance.
Here you can read a letter from HRH Queen Elizabeth II, thanking her friend Frederick Browning (Boy) for getting her a Chanel perfume on her birthday.
