Buenos días! La exposición sobre moda y cine ideada por Jean Paul Gaultier ha terminado hace unos días, así que para los que no habéis podido visitarla, aquí os traigo un pequeño resumen con imágenes de mi visita. La exposición muestra cómo el cine y la moda se inspiran mutuamente en intercambian influencias creativas que a su vez están afectadas por los movimientos sociológicos de cada tiempo y los diferentes miembros de la industria del cine y de la moda.
Good morning! The Cinema. and Fashion exhibition by Jean Paul Gaultier just ended a few days ago, so, in case you missed it, here are some images from my visit there. The exhibition shows how the movies and fashion inspire each other and exchange creative influences, also affected by the sociological movements and members of each industry at different times.
La exposición comienza con las influencias españolas del diseñados francés, al que desde niño inspiró el folklore de nuestro país y las películas de Sara Montiel o Carmen Sevilla.
The exhibition started with the French designer Spanish influences, who was inspired since he was a kid by my country's folklore and Sara Montiel or Carmen Sevilla movies.
A continuación encontramos una colección de vídeos y vestidos de mujeres fatales, llevadas a la gran pantalla por Mae West, Marylin Monroe, Rita Hayworth, Brigitte Bardot o Sara Montiel.
Next we find a "Femme Fatale" video and costumes selection, worn on the big screen by Mae West, Marylin Monroe, Rita Hayworth, Brigitte Bardot or Sara Montiel.

There are some other iconic relations between fashion and movies, like the image power of a biker leather jacket.

La imagen de los superhéroes y de las películas del Oeste también se crea inspirada en la moda del momento y afecta a su vez el trabajo de los diseñadores:

Otro tema muy importante para Gaultier es el de la transgresión iniciada en América en los años 30 por algunas actrices que comienzan a vestirse con prendas de hombre y utilizar la androginia para reivindicar su libertad, trastocando así lo que estaba establecido.
Another important issue for Gaultier has been transgression, started in America in the 30s by. some actresses that started dressing men clothes and using androgyny to express their freedom, shaking the rules of their times.
En los 70 esas transgresiones pasan de ser marginales a popularizarse, haciendo alarde del travestismo y el escándalo sexual. Esta libertad en los géneros pasa a protagonizar los desfiles de Gaultier, con la camiseta marinera ajustada y con la espalda al aire para hombres como prenda icónica, y la androginia se extiende a los vestuarios que diseña para películas de Almodóvar.
Those transgressions were marginal in the 30s, but became popular in the 70s, when scandal and travestities were celebrated. That freedom was expressed by gender reversal in Gaultier shows, with the backless navy shirt for men as an iconic piece, and also the costumes he designed for Almodovar movies.
En los 60, Pierre Cardin y André Courréges triunfaron con sus diseños futuristas y la utilización de nuevos materiales. En esta corriente las película Blow-up y la Naranja mecánica reflejan a la perfección el intercambio de moda y cine de la época.
In the 60s, Pierre Cardin y André Courréges. were very succesful with their futuristic designs and the use of new materials. Movies like Blow-up or an Orange Clockwork are great examples of the fashionand movies influences of that time.
Por su parte, William Klein, un provocador fotógrafo de moda, dirige en 1966 la película ¿Quién eres tú, Polly Maggoo? En la que viste a las modelos con estructuras metálicas en una sátira sobre la comunicación y la alta costura.
William Klein, known for being a provocative fashion. photographer, directed in 1966 Who are you, Polly Maggoo?, a political satire on the fashion and media industries, where models wore metallic structures.
El metal, presente en películas históricas en los atuendos de guerreras y guerreros, salta a las pasarelas con Paco Rabanne y sus vestidos de malla, y también se incorpora en la moda futurista revolucionaria y psicodélica.
Metal, always present in historical films warrior coastumes, was introduced at the runway by Paco Rabanne and his metallic dresses, being part of that futuristic and revolucionary fashion.
Las películas relacionadas con la moda se dieron cuenta del atractivo de los desfiles, y los convirtieron. en una escena obligatoria de este tipo de películas, incluyendo también algo de la acción que los rodea; backstage, la prensa, la primera fila... En los 80 Gaultier, y otros diseñadores como Mugler o Westwood, convirtieron sus pasarelas en un espectáculo que incluía a todas las partes participantes en una creacción colectiva muy similar a la de la industria del cine.
Fashion related movies realized that fashion shows created some magic on screen, and starting introducing the show as a mandatory scene for that kind of movies, also including some of the action that happens around; backstage, media, front row... In the 80's Gaultier, and some other designers like Mugler or Westwood, turned their shows into a performance involving every part in the collective creation, something similar to what happens in film making.
Por último llegamos a Falbalas, la película que inspiró la carrera de gaultier, con una historia que transcurre en una casa de alta costura con el vestuario diseñado por Marcel Rochas, que estuvo muy implicado en la película.
And finally we. come to Falbalas, the movie inspiring Gaultier's career, with a story happening at a couture house with costumes designed by Marcel Rochas, who was very involved in the movie.
A Rochas se le considera el inventor del guêpière, el corset lencero con ligas, que posteriormente Gaultier popularizó como prenda exterior, y acabó convirtiéndose en una de las claves de su marca.
Rochas is supposed to be the inventor of the guêpière, the wasp-waist corset that Gaultier would later make so popular as a piece of clothing instead of as lingerie. Corsets are one of Gaultier best known designs.
