Buenos días! Siguiendo con la celebración del décimo aniversario del blog hoy retrocedemos al 2016 para hacer un repaso por mis looks de ese año.

Good morning! We continue celebrating this blog 10th anniversary and today we are going back to 2016 to check out my closet during that time. 

I actually did not post many outfits from 2016, it was a very busy year at work so I use every day off to explore some destination. From that year you can see my trips to Paris, Edinburgh and Porto, I also went to Italy but I don't think I shared it here. And I also visited many places in Spain: Toledo, Aranjuez, La Alberca, Mogarraz, Manzanares el Real, la Mancha... And we also did some gastronomy discoveries, visiting Cenador de Amós in Villaverde de Pontones, Montia in El Escorial, the Celler de Can Roca in Girona, Angelo Corvitto's ice cream factory at the Costa Brava, Tolosana pastry workshop in Huesca and Castillo de Canena olive fields in Jaen.

Además de viajes y comida rica, también publiqué bastantes DIYs, fue un año en el que estuve especialmente creativa, ya fuese para temas de plantas como este o este, zapatos alegres como estos o estos, bolsos como este, cosas de lana tejida con los brazos, un espejo sol, cacharritos para el baño, organización de la cocina como esta, posavasos, mantelitos y hasta una mesa de centro! Y también seguí diseñando, la colección Sugar Lane Design de ese otoño sigue siendo una de mis favoritas! Podéis ver los 4 looks principales aquí, aquí, aquí y aquí.

Apart from traveling and eating well, I posted a lot of DIY projects, looks like I was very inspired that year. I created plant decorations like this or this other, fun shoes like these or these, bags like this one, I knitted with my arms, made a sunburst mirror, bathroom items, tins to organize the kitchen, coasters, place mats and even a coffee table! Y also designed clothes, Sugar Lane Design collection from that Fall is still one of my favorites! You can see the four main looks here, here, here and here. 

 En cuanto a mis modelitos, podríamos destacar looks sencillos, algo de azul marino como en este vestido o con este jersey, también toques de rojo como aquí o aquí, algunos toques plateados como este jersey o estos zapatos, y bastante burdeos, que podéis ver en este look con culottes, aquí con una camisa barroca, o en los accesorios del look que versiono hoy.

And regarding outfits, it was mainly simple ones, with colors like navy blue in this dress or this sweater, touches of red here and there, some silver details like this sweater or these shoes, and plenty of burgundy, that you can see in this culotte outfit, here with a baroque blouse or on the accessories of the look chosen for today's recreation.

El look en cuestión lo llevé durante una escapada con mi familia a La Alberca, y es una combinación que sigo repitiendo y versionando año tras año: Falda plisada, top corto y tacón bajo. Y los tonos beige, rosas y burdeos ya sabéis que me van bien siempre. 

This outfit is something I wore during a family trip to La Alberca, but the mix is something I wear a lot: Pleated skirt, crop top and low heels. And you know how much I love beige, pink and burgundy shades.

La falda la corté hace unos años en un arrebato porque para otro outfit me gustaba más corta, y luego me arrepentí... aun así la seguí utilizando hasta que murio de vieja. El top lo sigo teniendo y es uno de mis imprescindibles cuando viajo porque sirve igual para un look boho más casual o para salir a cenar con un buen tacón. Tacones burdeos creo que tengo 3 pares y es porque les doy bastante uso, los más bajos son los del look original, los de hoy son medios, y los más altos los podéis ver en la foto de mi perfil en Instagram. El pañuelo de seda llo tengo en Madrid, así que he utilizado uno similar pero anudándolo de otra forma. Y por último el bolso, que también se quedó en Madrid, así que lo he sustituido por mi maravilla de Chanel vintage, que creo que va estupendo con el resto del conjunto. Tengo pendiente enseñaros cómo restauré este bolso, así que lo veréis pronto por mi canal de YouTube!

 I cut the hem of the skirt some years ago cause it looked better for a different outfit, and then I regretted it... but I kept wearing it until it died of natural causes. The top is the same one, which is actually one of my key pieces when I travel, cause I can style it for a casual boho outfit or dress it up with heels for a date night. I think I own 3 pairs of burgundy heels, the lower ones are the ones on the original outfit, the medium ones are the ones I'm wearing here, and the high heels are on my Instagram profile if you want to check them out. The silk scarf stayed in Madrid, so I'm wearing a similar one tied in a different way. And last, but not least, the original bag is also in Madrid, but I'm wearing my precious vintage Chanel, that I think is a better match for this outfit. I still have to share how I repaired this bag, so don't forget to follow my YouTube channel if you are interested!

The idea actually came from all of you, from the messages you send me on Instagram and YouTube asking for my reccommendations about certain things, and, in most of the cases my response takes you tou the same place: Amazon.

Yo siempre he preferido el pequeño comercio, pero al mudarme a Washington me encontré con una ciudad en la que las ferreterías, librerías, mercerías o fruterías son algo del pasado. Así que tuve que cambiar el chip y aprender a comprar online prácticamente todo, desde los huevos hasta el desodorante, pasando por folios o clavos. I have always prefered shopping from small businesses, but when I moved to DC I found myself in a city where hardware stores, bookstores, haberdasheries or fruit shops are something from the past. So I had to learn a new way of shopping, getting most of my goods online... From eggs to deodorant, paper to nails. And as time went by I started to discover new items, things that I might not need before but that make my everyday much easier, and those great finds are what I will be sharing with you here.

So let's get this started; the first post on this series is about my 10 favorite items on Amazon that will make your shoes better! Small tricks that will avoid feet pain or will stop your shoes from getting ruined under the rain...

1. Spray repelente de agua / Water repellent spray

Un esencial con el que rocío todos mis zapatos de piel según los compro. Ayuda a evitar manchas causadas por la lluvía y otros líquidos, haciendo que nuestros zapatos nos duren impecables mucho más tiempo. Yo utilizo dos diferentes: Uno para piel y otro para ante.

This is a key product I spray on my leather shoes the minute I unbox them. It helps avoiding rain or other liquid stains, making our shoes to last longer. I use 2 different sprays, one for leather and one for suede.

Truco del almendruco: volver a rociar los zapatos cada temporada! Yo aprovecho el cambio de armario de primavera y otoño para sacarlos todos a la terraza e impermeabilizarlos de una vez.

Pro tip: spray them again every season! I do it when I change my wardrobe in Spring and Fall, take them all outside and spray them so they become waterproof.

 

2. Goma de borrar para ante / Suede eraser

El ante es algo delicado y tiende an mancharse con mayor facilidad, pero esta goma de borrar limpia cualquier mancha debida al roce con el suelo o incluso al desteñido de vaqueros oscuros.

Suede is delicate and tends to get dirty easily, but this eraser removes any wear dirt or color transfer, even from dark jeans. 

3. Cepillo para ante / Suede cleaning brush

Cuando la goma de borrar no es suficiente para limiar el ante, recurro a este cepillo mágico! Este desgasta un poco más el ante, y por eso, si la mancha sale con la goma, prefiero no utilizarlo tan a menudo. 

When the suede eraser is not enough to remove a stain, I use this magic brush! This wears suede down a little, so that is why I prefer to use the eraser when possible.

Para manchas en el ante o restos de barro, se cepilla con la parte de las cerdas en movimientos circulares y despues se repite el proceso con el cepillo de slicona, para devolver la esponjosidad a la piel. La parte de silicona plana es perfecta para limpiar las juntas de la piel con la suela.

For suede stains or mud, just brush in circles with the thin bristles, and theen repeat with thee silicone brush to get back the leather fluffiness. The flat silicone part is perfect to reach the joints and hidden corners.

4. Almohadillas metatarsales / Metatarsal pads

Este invento puede que sea más conocido por todas las amantes de los tacones, pero el surtido que encontraréis en Amazon es insuperable! Las tenéis de silicona o de espuma, en varios colores para que queden a juego con el interior del zapato, con relieve para que los dedos encajen bien, con puntitos masajeadores y hasta con un agujero para ajustar a chanclas o sandalias de dedo.

This might be well known by shoe lovers, but the variety Amazon offers is pretty amazing! You will find them in silicone or foam, in different colors to match the insole of your shoes, with relief like the shape of your feet or a texture that provides a massage feeling, they even have them with a hole to fit your toe sandals. 

Yo suelo llevar siempre zapatos cómodos y que no me hacen daño, pero estas almohadillas son un extra de comodidad que va estupendo para eventos largos en los que estamos muchas horas de pie.

I usually wear comfy shoes that do not cause me pain, but these pads add extra comfort during long events with a lot of standing hours.

5. Almohadillas para el talón / Heel pads

Estas almohadillas en teoría son para evitar rozaduras, pero yo las utilizo para esos zapatos que a veces quedan un poco sueltos y se salen al caminar.

These pads are intended to prevent blisters, but I use them on shoes that are slightly big and can get loose when I walk.

Truco del almendruco: si no te quedan muy sueltos pero a veces se salen puedes cortar una tira más fina y ponerla pegada al borde superior para que haga de tope.  

Pro tip: If they are not very big you can cut a thinner strip and stick it to the upper edge of the heel inside.

6. Protectores de suela / Sole protectors

Lo cierto es que a mí no me gusta proteger las suelas de piel de los zapatos, me gusta dejarlas tal cual, salvo en botas o botines que me pongo en invierno cuando llueve. Pero a los zapatos que suelo utilizar en mi trabajo diario sí que les añado protección a las suelas para darles un apoyo antideslizante y evitar resvalones y caidas tontas contra el pulido suelo.

I honestly do not like protecting  my shoe soles, I like them as they are, except in boots I wear on rainy Winter days. But I usually protect the soles of my work shoes, just to add some grip and avoid slipping or falling on shinny floors at work.

Alguna vez he comprado protectores de suelas adhesivos que ya vienen a la medida de algunos modelos de zapatos de Louboutin o Manolo Blahnik, pero eran como un protector para la pantalla del móvil, evitaban rallar las suelas (lo cual me parece absurdo de todo punto) pero era como patinar sobre hielo...

Some time ago I purchased adhesive sole protectors that some companies sell for specific models of Louboutin or Manolo Blahnik, but they were like an iPhone screen protector, they avoided scratches (which I think is an absurd goal on a shoe) and every time I walked felt like ice skating...

Y por suerte encontré este invento, es un rollo adhesivo y transparente que cortas a la medida de tus suelas y evita resvalones inmediatamente. Lo he usado en varios pares desde hace meses y de momento siguen perfectas y sin despegarse. Muy recomendables, sobre todo porque no se notan al ser transparentes. 

Luckily I found this! An adhesive and clear roll that you can cut in thee shape of your soles and adds some instant grip. I have used it on different pairs of pumps for the last months and they look pretty good, the adhesive is strong and it has not moved.

Truco del almendruco: Es mejor pegar esta protección en suelas nuevas. Si no son nuevas, limpia bien la suela y sécala para que el protector se pegue lo mejor posible.

Pro tip: Use this adhesive soles on new soles. If they are not new, clean the soles and dry them well so the adhesive works better. 

7. Limpiador y acondicionador / 

Cleaner and conditioner

Normalmente utilizo una bayeta húmeda para limpiar mis zapatos y crema hidratante despúes, pero a veces hay pares que necesitan cuidados intensivos, y para eso utilizo este duo de limpiador y acondicionador, aplicados con un trapo de algodón y movimientos circulares. 

I usually clean my shoes with a wet micrrofiber cloth and then apply moisturizer, but sometimes shoes need intensive care, and then is when I use this leather cleaner and conditioner duo, applied in circles with a cotton cloth.

El limpiador limpia en general, pero tampoco hace milagros con las manchas imposibles, pero, el acondicionador es increible! Deja la piel tan suave como si fuese napa de Loewe! Tenéis que probarlo, dan ganas de untártelo por todo el cuerpo...

The cleaner just cleans, but does not work miracles on crazy stain, but the conditioner is just amazing! It leaves leather as smooth and soft as brand new Loewe napa! You have to try it, you will feel like spreading it all over your skin...

8. Cremas de colores / Color shoe cream

Seguro que tenéis crema de zapatos neutra, o negra, puede que algunas tengáis marrón o azul marino... pero, de que colores son vuestros zapatos? Los zapatos de colores de vez en cuando necesitan mimos, y que les devolvamos la intensidad y el brillo! Estas cremas para zapatos de piel están disponibles en prácticamente cualquier color que se os ocurra, y también las podéis utizar para vuestros bolsos!

I'm sure you have some neutral shoe cream, or black, some of you might have brown or navy blue... but, what colors are your shoes? Color shoes need some attention from time to time, to get all their shine and glory back! These leather creams are available in every color you can think of, and you can also use them on your bags!

Truco del almendruco: Si no encuentras el color exacto, mezcla 2 o 3 colores, y haz siempre una prueba en una zona poco visible.

Pro tip: If you can not find the exact shade, mix a couple of colors, and always make a patch test somewhere hidden.

9. Tapas y protectores para el tacón /

Heel replacement and caps

Aquí os traigo 3 productos diferentes, todos para las tapas del tacón.

Here are 3 different items, all to take care of your heel caps. 

El primero, si habéis estado en alguna boda en los últimos 10 años, probablemente ya lo conozcáis, pues si parte de la celebración es sobre el césped, suelen tener estas piezas para proteger los tacones de las manchas verdes y evitar que las invitadas se queden clavadas en el suelo. Es muy práctico llevarlos en el bolso cuando te invitan a fiestas en territorrios desconocidos y no quieres ir con zapatos de cuña.

The first one, if you have attended a wedding in the last 10 years, I'm sure you know. This has become the perfect guest savior at weddings celebrated on grass, protecting the heel caps from green stains and guests from sinking into the ground. It's a great item to carry in your bag when you are invited to unknown grounds and you don't feel like wearing wedges.

El segundo invento es una pequeña funda que protege tanto la tapa del tacón como la parte de abajo del mismo. Es una buena idea para tacones de satén o de ante que no quieres que se manchen demasiado en algún evento. Pero sobre todo, es un salvavidas cuando te das cuenta antes de salir de casa que tus tapas están muy gastadas, o cuando pierdes una en mitad del día. Le pones una fundita de estas y puedes seguir caminando tranquila hasta que tengas tiempo de poner tapas nuevas.

The second one is an adjusted sleeve that protects the heel cap and the lowerr part of the heel. It is a great option for satin or suede heels that you don't want to stain at some party. But, above all, these are the beest option when you arree about to leave the house and realize your caps are almost gone, or when you loose one in the middle of your day. You can just slide a tip on it and keep walking until you find the time to get new caps.

Y por último, tenemos las tapas de repuesto. Esto ya para amantes de los proyectos DIY. Si no se os dan bien las manualidades, mejor que los llevéis a un zapatero. Zapateros es algo que en Washington sí tenemos, pero te cobran unos $40 por cambiarte las tapas, que en esta ciudad necesitan cambiarse muy a menudo porque las aceras son como lijas (pero esa es otra historia). Así que, con este surtido de tapas, un martillo y unos alicates, me ahorro tiempo y dinero.

And finally, we have caps replacements. This is only for DIY lovers. If you are not very gifted with this kind of projects, better take your shoes to the cobbler. We do have shoe repair services in DC, but they charge $40 for reeplacing your caps, something that you need to do very often cause Washington sidewalks are like sandpaper (but that would be a different story). So, with these heel caps, a hammer and some pliers, you can save time and money.

10. Crema Nivea / Nivea Cream

Si hay algo que me gusta de un producto es que sea multiusos, y la crema Nivea está en la cima de los productos multiusos! Utilizo la misma lata para hidratar mi cara, mis manos, mi cuerpo, cinturones, bolsos, chaquetas de piel y, por supuesto, zapatos! Pero sabéis lo mejor? Si te untas bien los pies un rato antes de ponerte los zapatos, evitarás las rozaduras!  

If there is something I like, that is a multipurpose item, and Nivea cream is on my top of multipurpose products! I use the same tin to moisturize my face, hands, body, belts, bags, leather jackets and, of course, shoes! But do you know the best part? If you apply it to your feet some minutes before wearing your shoes, you will prevent blisters!

Sí, olvídate de los sticks antirozaduras y otros inventos similares, lleva siempre una lata mini en el bolso y si notas que tus zapatos te rozan, aplica un poco de crema en esa zona y sigue caminando!

Yes, forget anti-blister sticks and similar prroducts, carry a mini tin of Nivea always in your bag and, whenever you feel your shoes are rubbing, apply some Nivea and carry on!

Buenos días! Creo que a estas alturas todas conocéis my amor por las americanas camel, que podéis ver combinadas de diferentes formas aquí. Hace un año me hice con un par de ellas, una de lana que utilizo más en otoño, y otra de caballero que es la que me estoy poniendo en primavera. 

Good morning! I  think by now you are all aware of my love for camel blazers, which you can see styled here. I acquired a couple of them a year ago, a wool one that I wear mostly in Fall months, and an oversized one that I'm wearing tin Spring.

The first one was ready to wear after dry cleaning, but the second one needed some deeper action, so this is what I'm sharing with you today.

Limpieza / Cleanning

Lo primero que hice fue quitarle los botones y llevar la chaqueta a la tintorería para dejarla bien limpia! Suelo preferir lavar yo misma las prendas que compro vintage, pero los abrigos y las blazers es mejor llevarlos a un sistio profesional para que no pierdan la forma.

The first thing I did was removing the buttons and take the jacket to the cleaners to make it fresh! I usually wash or clean every vintage item when I first get it, but coats and jackets are better off at proffessional hands so they do not loose their structured shape.

Forro / Lining

El forro de la chaqueta estaba descosido por la manga. Para reparar un forro de chaqueta o abrigo, lo mejor es descoserlo por el bajo, darle la vuelta a todo, repararlo desde el interior y volver a cerrarlo por el bajo. Mi sorpresa fue que cuando recogí la chaqueta de la tintorería ya le habían cosido el forro. Lo hicieron bastante chapuceramente, pero como el interior de la manga no se ve, de momento se ha quedado así.

The blazer lining was ripped at the sleeve. The best way to repair a garment lining is unstitching the hem, turning it inside out, repairing it and closed the hem back. In this case the cleaners took care of it so I found it repaired when I picked it up. The stitching was not very fine, but since the inside of the sleeves are not usually seen, I am letting it be, at least for now.

Botones / Buttons

Los botones metálicos estaban algo envejecidos, así que el primer paso fue quitarlos para limpiarlos a fondo. Otra cosa que podéis hacer con los botones es cambiarlos por unos nuevos que le den un toque más moderno, o cambiarlos por unos antiguos que le quitáseis a otra prenda en su día. Son soluciones que también son muy prácticas cuando se os haya perdido alguno y no encontréis un repuesto. 

The lovely metallic buttons were tarnished, so I removed them at the beginning to clean them properly. You can also swap them for new buttons that give a modern touch or for old ones that you might have taken from a different jacket. Those are very practical tips to update a blazer, specially when you have a missing piece and can not find a replacement. 

En este caso, como la chaqueta tenía todos los botones y me gustan bastante con el las iniciales YSL, yo me decidí por restaurarlos. Para ello utilicé un limpiador de metales que podéis encontrar aquí, y un procedimiento bastante similar al que utilizé para limpiar la cremallera y los herrajes de mi bolso Alma de Louis Vuitton. Me ayudé con la punta de un alfiler para quitar bien los restos en los recovecos más pequeños.

But since this blazer had all its buttons and I really like the vintage YSL detail, I decided to fix them. I used a cleaner that you can find here, and a similar method to the one I used to clean my Louis Vuitton hardware. I also used a pin to reach the small details. 

Finalmente, cuando recogí la chaqueta de la tintorería, le volví a coser los botones. Un paso que hay que hacer muy concienzudamente para que no se nos caiga ni se pierda ninguno!

Finally, once I had the jacket back from the cleaners, I sew the buttons back. This is a step you should do very carefully and make sure they are properly fixed so they do not fall in the future.
