New Orleans: Streetcar and Steamboat

Buenos días! Hoy exploramos Nueva Orleans un poco más alla del Vieux Carré, primero tomamos el tranvía de la avenida St. Charles y después damos un paseo por el Mississippi a bordo de un barco de vapor. Quién se apunta?

Good morning! Today we are exploring New Orleans outside the French Quarter, first we are taking the streetcar at St. Charles Avenue and after that we are sailing the Mississippi River on a steamboat. Who else is coming?

Desayuno en Café Beignet, definitivamente no le veo la gracia a estos dulces, pero el local es una monada!

Have breakfast at Cafe Beignet, these fritters are definitely not for me, but the place is really cute!

Coge el tranvía verde, recorre toda la avenida St. Charles y puedes ir viendo las fantásticas casas y un montón de collares de Mardi Gras que quedan colgados por los árboles y cables.

Take the green streetcar, that goes along St. Charles Avenue. You can watch the beautiful houses and lots of Mardi Gras necklaces hanging from the trees and wires.

Baja del tranvía junto al Cementerio Lafayette. En esta ciudad los cementerios son una atracción turística por 2 razones; el lado místico que gira en torno al Voodoo y el hecho de que las tumbas en vez de estar bajo tierra, son panteones. La ciudad está rodeada de agua y a muy poco altitud, por lo que no se puede enterrar bajo tierra, algo que en Estados Unidos les resulta muy chocante, pero si vienes de España pues tampoco tiene mucho interés.

Get off close to Lafayette Cemetery. Here cemeteries are a touristic place for 2 reasons; the mystic vibe surrounding Voodoo and the facts that tombs are not underground, there are mausoleums instead. The city is surrounded by water and at a very low level, so they can not bury them underground, something that is really uncommon in this country, but nothing special if you are coming from Spain.

Junto a este cementerio está el vistoso restaurante Commanders Place. Con un estricto código de vestimenta, demasiado para las altas temperaturas.

Next to this cemetery you will find the fancy restaurant Commanders Place. With a very strict dress code, ridiculous in such hot weather.

Coge el tranvía de vuelta para ir a un restaurante local auténtico; Mother's.

Take the streetcar back to have lunch at an authentic local restaurant; Mothers's.

El lugar recuerda al comedor de un colegio, haces la cola para pedir y luego buscas una mesa. Las camareras te llaman "Baby" y se encargan de ir trayéndote todo lo que has pedido a la mesa. Son famosos por el jamón asado y el pollo frito. Yo me quedo con el Po' Boy de roast beef y las judías con arroz, aunque estaba todo riquísimo!

The place reminds of a college canteen, you wait in line to order and then find a table. The waiters call you "Baby" and keep bringing everything you order to your table. They're known for the baked ham and fried chicken. My favourite were the roast beef Po' Boy and beans with rice, but everything was delicious!

Baja la comida paseando por la Calle Chartres, ya sé que hoy tocaba ver otras zonas, pero el Vieux Carré es demasiado fantástico como para resistirse. Puedes visitar la catedral, el Cabildo o coger un coche de caballos, no te olvides de mirar hacia arriba y descubrir cada balcón!

Take a walk at Chartres Street, I know we were supposed to be outside the French Quarter today, but it is too pretty to resist. You can visit the Cathedral, the Cabildo or take a horse cart, and don´t forget to look up and discover each balcony!

Para refrescarte tómate un cóctel en el Carrousel Bar mientras vas dando vueltas sin moverte de la silla. Es como volver a la infancia, pero con una piña colada en la mano!

Have a cocktail at the Carrousel Bar, a spinning bar that takes you back to your childhood, but with a Piña Colada in your hand!

Sube a bordo del barco de vapor Natchez, el paseo dura 3 horas, con jazz en directo, vistas únicas y una puesta de sol para recordar siempre.

Board Natchez steamboat, it will take you on a 3 hours cruise with live jazz, wonderful views and an unforgettable sunset.

Desembarca y pasea por las callecitas iluminadas con lámparas de gas y busca un sitio para cenar.

Back on dry land, walk on the streets among the gas lamps and find a place to have dinner.

Las ostras son otra de las especialidades de Louisiana, y en Seaworthy las sirven fresquísimas en un comedor de lo más coqueto.

Oysters are another Louisiana specialty, and at Seaworthy they serve them really fresh and in the cutest room.
