Good morning! Today I'm sharing a visit we made some time ago, but we didn't try any dishes, instead we are discovering how beautiful plates are made, so then we can place food on them. Welcome to Pordamsa, the design workshop where tableware is specially made for chefs!
After a trip to Pals we had the chance to visit this amazing place guided by Manel Puigdemont, who explained us everything behind each beautiful piece.
It starts with inspiration from nature; rocks, sea urchins, woods...
In the workshop, with field views, they shape every idea.
Once they have the final design they make the mould.
And make the paste mixing kaolin, quartz and feldspar.
They mould the paste and fire it at 900ºC for 20hrs so the water evaporates and the piece becomes hard. This porcelain is known as biscuit.

Once they remove the mould they glaze it and fire again at 1400ºC for 24hrs. Then the piece is ready.
If they want to add some pigments for decorations they need to fire it a third time at 900ºC to fix the colours properly.
At the showroom you can see (and buy) wonderful porcelain and glass pieces.
To top the visit we found the tuna tartar made by Carlos in their catalogue. We are so proud, this will always be one of my favourite dishes!
